This takes development of both the protagonists, of course, and Kleypas does this wonderfully. This novel is the perfect opposites attract sort of book, in which two characters start off completely different at the beginning, sparking off an intense chemistry that leaps off the page throughout the course of the novel, and ends with the reader understanding that perhaps the two characters are not so different as we thought.
Of course, he ends up falling for his shy, stuttering heroine, Evie. He starts off in the novel as a selfish character, his only redeemable characteristics being his eloquence and, of course, his looks. An absolutely delicious, dissolute, debauched rake. Vincent is the epitome of this type of character. I could review it in my sleep, and every single time, I would unconsciously give it 5 stars! The Devil in Winter is one of my favourite books!
